About

Between 2014-2021, The Hollows has been an artist residency on Bushwick Avenue, later moving to Bedford Ave, between N8th and N9th street, with live/work/exhibit modus operandi and with a pop-up at the Mediterranean. Select artists from across the globe resided at the residency, produced in the studios and exhibited in-house and outside exhibitions. Having a whole townhouse to ourselves, we experimented with audience engagement, from having over-night studio session series to various site-specific immersive dance performances, from displaying art on the windows, to having 5-floor façade murals, from renting scaffolding to shooting narrative films with the house and its residents.

We had a 24 stage in the center of New York City’s Williamsburg, on the renowned main street, Bedford Avenue, with Apple Store and Wythe Hotel as our neighbor, and venues like Output and the park in two block parameters, reversing the cultural migration direction of the borough. Our artists who moved into the waterfront lofts in the 90’s, expressed their happiness for embodying the neighborhood’s early vibes. We thank our artists, patrons and supporters for making this dream a reality. Now, we are working to scale up our business model under a new brand, Phoyer.
